Scope and Content

Mixbury is a village in the north-west of Oxfordshire, situated very near the borders with both Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire. In 1931, Mixbury was united with the parish of Finmere, and in 1983, these parishes were in turn united with Cottisford, Hardwick with Tusmore, and Newton Purcell with Shelswell. These parishes have now been joined by Fringford, Godington, Hethe, Stoke Lyne and Stratton Audley to form the Shelswell group of parishes.

The parish records of Mixbury have been deposited at various times. Deposits were made with the Bodleian Library in 1968, 1978, 1983 and 1984, before their transfer to Oxfordshire Archives, and further deposits made directly with Oxfordshire Archives in 1997 as Accession No. 4212 and 2009 as Accession 5921. Acc 2178 was deposited in August 1983 and originally catalogued as Misc Mixbury. A further deposits were made as Acc 6114 in August 2012 and Acc 6919 in November 2021. A concordance of old and new references is given at the back of the catalogue.

Catalogued by Robin Darwall-Smith in November 1998, with additions by Alison Smith in May 2009, December 2012 and September 2022 and Hannah Jones, December 2009.
