Administrative / Biographical History

Akram Khan Company is an award-winning dance company founded by dancer and choreographer Akram Khan and producer Farooq Chaudhry in 2000. The company has toured extensively both internationally and across the UK, challenging the conventions of traditional dance through innovative cultural and artistic collaborations, seeking to use dance as a form of communication and dialogue. The company's mission is to produce "thoughtful, provocative and ambitious dance productions for the international stage. Akram Khan takes human themes and works with others to take them to new and unexpected places." " (Source: www.akramkhancompany.net 2013).

In 2005, Akram Khan was awarded an MBE for his services to dance. He has collaborated with many high profile artists such as Juliette Binoche, Sylvie Guillem, Kylie Minogue and Anish Kapoor. Seen by millions worldwide, Khan choreographed and performed a moving scene at the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, and holds a number of honorary fellowships and personal awards.
