  • Physical Description
    • 1 volume Condition: Good to fair. Re-backed throughout by urauchi, repairing some worm damage. Worm holes remain, subsequent to repair, in maki 1, 5 and 25. A generally clean copy with only slight staining. Cropped at upper edge. Impression: Sharp and clear in places, but the blocks mostly show signs of wear. Seals of ownership: Large rectangular blue seal, 子孫永保雲煙家藏書記, on mikaeshi (seal of Kashima Seibē 鹿島清兵衞). Square red seals, 淺野源氏五萬巻樓圖書之記, on first page of each former satsu; and oblong red seal in an elaborate dragon border, 楳堂閲藏, on last page of maki 25 (both are seals of Asano Nagayoshi 淺野長祚). Small square red seals of Terada Bōnan 寺田望南: Dokuto sōdō, 讀杜艸堂; and a further small red seal (unidentified) on first page of each former satsu. Also a large square red seal, 彤函翠蘊, on first page of maki 1. Manuscript notes: Kunten and kaeriten in red and black, and some reading marks in red, added at an early date in maki 1-8, 11-12 and 16-20. A few scattered textual headnotes.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Du Fu 杜甫, 712-70, original author. Compiler and editor: XU Juren 徐居仁. Imprint: N.p., n.d. [Nanbokuchō period, 1333-92] . No colophon. Description: 25 kan, formerly in 5 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Satsu 1) maki 1-5; (satsu 2) maki 6-10; (satsu 3) maki 11-15; (satsu 4) maki 16-20; (satsu 5) maki 21-25. 25.7 x 17.4 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame varies between 18.8 and 19.9 x 15.5 cm. Single-line borders above and below text. Double-line borders at inner edge of each leaf. Vertical rules between columns. Fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text, without printed kunten or reading marks. 11 lines to page, 21 characters to line. Mid-brown front cover, old but not original, of satsu 1 only. No title slip. Manuscript gedai in a mid-Edo period hand: Bunrui toshi 分類杜詩. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: To 杜 + maki no. + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: Gozan-ban, originating in Japan and not derived from an earlier Chinese edition, although the hanshiki and form of script strongly reflect the styles of Song and Yuan. The probability is that this edition was produced by extracting the main text (without commentary) from the earlier Gozan edition, Shū senka chū bunrui To Kōbu shi 集千家註分類杜工部詩, published in Eiwa 2 永和二年 (1376). It contains no preface, mokuroku 目録 or batsu 跋. Contents: Selected poems by Du Fu 杜甫, compiled and edited by Xu Juren 徐居仁, classified by subject. Plain text without annotation or commentary.
