Description: 5 kan, 1 satsu, rebound in western style. ff. 1-3 (fol. 4 lacking), 5 (author's preface, supplied in manuscript on different paper), 1-82. Continuous folio numbering. 19.8 x 13.9 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 13.3 x 12.4 cm. Single-line borders with double fishtail design on hanshin. Vertical rules between columns and horizontal rules dividing each page into 3 parts. Text in kanji, with printed on and kun readings in katakana. 9 lines to page, 7 characters to line. Original vermilion front cover, within western style half-leather binding. Gedai: 聚分韻畧虎關禪 ... 序 慶長刻 全, on hand-lettered title slip added in late-Edo period. Title from naidai at head of (handwritten) preface and of maki 2-5. Hashiragaki: [no title] , folio no. only. Edition: Three blockprinted editions were published in Keichō period, following the numerous pre-Edo editions noted under no. 252 above. This is the second Keichō blockprint, the first being dated Keichō 11 (1606) and the third undated. This edition of 1612 is based on that of 1606, issued by Itokudō 醫徳堂, publisher of chiefly medical books. All three of these blockprinted editions are of small format, modelled on the Ōuchi 大内 edition of Tenbun 8 天文八年, 1539. Contents: A dictionary to aid in the composition of Chinese poetry, with kanji classified by tone and rhyme. Much used by monks of the Gozan 五山 monasteries who practised Chinese poetry.
