    • 1 volume Condition: Very good. No wormage or stains. Lacks folio 4 of preface, replaced by a blank sheet. Impression: Atozuri. Seals of ownership: Red seal in the form of a Chinese bronze vessel with the name 綱宗 printed inkoku, on front cover and on last page of text.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Liang Yin 梁寅. Imprint: [Suruga province] , Taigen Sūfu 太原崇孚 (Sessai 雪齋), Tenbun 23 天文甲寅, 1554. Kanki at end of text reads: 此書已渡其版未行因鏤 / 之梓留置于 / 龍山雪齋書院 / 天文甲寅仲冬吉 followed by printed seal (刻印) reading 崇孚. Description: 1 kan, 1 satsu, rebound in 1 vol. western style. ff. 3 (序), [1] (blank), [1] (last folio of jo 序), 23 (本文). 24.6 x 18.1 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 21-21.2 x 16.2 cm. Double-line borders all round. Vertical rules between columns. Fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text without kunten. Preface printed in gyōsho script. 10 lines to page, 17 characters to line (15 characters in preface). Pale fawn shibubiki front cover only, old but not original, without title slip. Manuscript gedai in a late-Edo hand: 歴代序略 全. A white paper slip pasted on cover at top right reads: 歴代序略珍版 代五十戔. Hashiragaki: Rekidai joryaku 歴代序略 + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: The only early Japanese edition of this work, published in Suruga province by the Zen monk Sessai 雪齋 or Taigen Sūfu 太原崇孚, a scion of the Imagawa 今川氏 clan. Reprint of a Ming edition. The present copy, like most surviving copies of this edition, is a late impression from worn blocks, lacking the 5 charactrs 東海駿城府, denoting place of publication, which are to be found after 于 in line 2 of the kanki in the only recorded early impressions. Contents: A brief outline of Chinese dynastic history up to the Yuan period.
