Kanki following kango on fol. 28b of maki 下 reads: 繪師 / 菱川吉兵衛 / 三月吉日 / 松會開板. Date deleted from block, leaving only the above. Publisher's name 松會 is a later addition to the block (入木). Description: 2 kan, formerly in 2 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 上) ff. [1] (tobira-e), 1-7, 8 / 9, 10-23; (maki 下) ff. [1] (tobira-e), 1-19, [1] (additional tobira-e), 20-28. 272 x 186 mm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 233 x 174 mm. (average). Single-line borders all round. Double lines separating text from commentary horizontally. Double-line decorative borders surrounding illustrations. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text, with printed dakuten and kutōten. 14 lines to page (main text), 32 lines to page (commentary). Variable no. of characters to line. Original mid-blue front and back covers of maki 上 only, with printed design of Chinese dragons and diagonal geometric pattern. In a western style cloth binding. Edition: No edition with this title and publisher traced in Kokusho sōmokuroku 国書総目録 or Ise monogatari ni tsukite no kenkyū 伊勢物語に就きての研究 (Ōtsu, Y.). None of the 32 works listed under this title in Kokusho sōmokuroku 国書総目録 corresponds to the present copy. However, there is a close resemblance to the two copies (apparently in 3 kan) described in Ryerson Catalogue, pp. 95-6. The first is dated Enpō 7 延宝七年 (1679) and the second is undated. It is possible that the present copy was originally in 3 satsu with continuous folio numbering in satsu 2-3, since the title slip from satsu 2, labelled chū 中, is pasted on the mikaeshi of satsu 上. Contents: Text of the 125 anecdotes of Ise monogatari 伊勢物語, with commentary in smaller print above.
