    • 1 volume Condition: Good, apart from a few soiled corners and stains. Impression: Sharp and clear, but blocks show slight signs of wear. Illustrations: A total of 4 double-page sumizuri illustrations, 2 in maki 上 and 2 in maki 下. Seals of ownership: Oblong red seal of Sir Ernest Satow, 英國薩道藏書, on first page of maki 上 and 下.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Unknown. Imprint: [Edo] , Yamamoto Kyūzaemon, Kanbun 6, 1666. Kanki on fol. 11a of maki 下 reads: 寛文六丙午年 ／ 二月吉日 山本九左衛門板. Description: 2 kan, formerly in 2 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 上) ff. 11; (maki 下) ff. 11. 27.3 x 18.5 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 22.1 x 17.2 cm. (average). Single-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text, with printed dakuten and kutōten. 16 lines to page, 28-30 characters to line. Original mid-blue front cover of maki 上 only, with original printed title slip on left. Gedai: E-iri (tsunogaki) hachikatsuki jō 繪入 (角書) はちかつき 上. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: はちかつき 上 (下) + folio no. Edition: Third blockprinted edition, following two slightly differing editions both dated Manji 2 万治二年 (1659). Contents: A tale of the Muromachi period (Muromachi jidai monogatari 室町時代物語), classed as otogi-zōshi and later printed as part of the complete set of 23 otogi-zōshi.
