(western style). (Maki 1) ff. 19; (2) ff. 19; (3) ff. 19; (4) ff. 21; (5) ff. 21. 22.4 x 16 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 19.4 x 14.3 cm. Single-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text with printed furigana. 10 lines to page, 22-24 characters to line. Original pale-fawn front cover of maki 1 only, within western style half-leather binding. Original printed title slip on left bearing gedai: E-iri (tsunogaki in circle) 繪入 nan chōhōki 男重寶記. Title from naidai. Hashiragaki: Nan chōhō 男重宝 + maki no. + folio no. Edition: First printed edition. Followed by an augmented edition (Zōho nan chōhōki 増補男重寶記) in Genroku 15, 1702. Contents: A manual of useful information for men of the bushi 武士 class, citing and explaining rules of etiquette, speech and behaviour in everyday life.
