Scope and Content

This collection is comprised of records of the College Council and its predecessor body, the first Executive Committee. It include Agendas and Minutes of meetings, as well as papers presented to Council

Administrative / Biographical History

In its early years, the British Paediatric Association was administered by an Executive Committee, consisting of the President, the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer with six ordinary members. As the association grew, the membership increased first to eight, then twelve. Representatives of the Ministry of Health, The Ministry of Education, the Scottish Home and Health Department and the Colonial Office were invited to join as observers.

In 1960, it was decided that the Executive Committee change its name to Council.

As of 2012, Council is the governing body of the College. In accordance with the College Byelaws, It consists of the elected officers of the College, including the President, the Senior Officers and the National officers. Matters of major policy are determined by council, while other decisions are brought to Council for ratification.
