Administrative / Biographical History

The British Exploring Expedition, 1871, the British Exploring Expedition, 1872 and the British Exploring Expedition, 1873 were led by Benjamin Leigh Smith to Svalbard. Sailing in Samson in 1871 and 1872 the expedition attained a furthest north of 81°. In 1873 Samson was joined by Diana making natural history collections during the voyage.
