The Technical College forms a single block of accommodation similar to Our Lady's High School, Cumbernauld, but additionally has a separate single storey block of technical workshops adjacent to the main buildings. Superficially, the main block appears to be very similar in concept to Our Lady's High, in that three floors of classrooms are positioned over the ancillary accommodation at ground and sub-ground level. However, on closer examination of the section, it is clear that considerable development has taken place with a further re-interpretation of the basic section; the upper classroom still have sloped ceilings, but the section now includes a series of sloping roof lights immediately above and behind the main window walls. The building is accessed by a number of vertical access points running at right angles to the main elevations. These, in turn open on to student meeting places within the circulation area at classroom level. Circulation within the main ancillary accommodation such as dining halls, assembly hall, gymnasium, cloaks, toilets and administration is reduced to an absolute minimum.

The concrete structure is clearly expressed on the exterior to the building, and concrete facing block is used below the sill level of the windows to the classrooms. The ancillary accommodation is clad by a 'continuous' screen which is partially obscured by a substantial concrete access deck to the main elevation.
