Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Howford School was built to accommodate 240 pupils with special educational needs in ten classrooms. The school is situated on a narrow, wooded triangular site between Crookston Rd and the White Cart River. It is a single storey building on one level with classrooms, pupil's toilets, kitchen & staff rooms around the perimeter surrounding the centrally placed assembly/dining hall, gymnasium, medical suite, cloak spaces, changing rooms, showers and small patio.
The retention of existing trees underlayed the siting of the building but consequent road widening and winter gales resulted in considerable loss of trees. Landscaping was limited to the necessary play areas and accesses, with setted and pebbled areas linking the building to the reinstated site.
Arrangement
The material has been arranged using original Gillespie Kidd and Coia project reference codes.
