This series comprises 21 volumes which furnish an account of the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries committee meetings. In effect, the series documents the high-level decision-making processes of the Board as well as Board activities undertaken in order to satisfy the body's statutory obligations as laid down in the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries Act, 1946.
The earliest minuted meeting extant in the series, 27 Nov 1946, dates from the year of the amalgamation of the Board's antecedents, namely, the Board of Agriculture, the Fisheries Boards and the Forestry Board. The last minuted meeting extant in the series, 15 Dec 1986, dates from shortly before the Board's formal dissolution and the subsequent transferral of its core functions to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
Activities evidenced within the Board's minutes include but are not limited to: the enforcement of various government orders and regulations relating to agriculture and fisheries; the administration and management of various funds and schemes aimed at the promotion and ongoing development of the Island's agriculture and fishery industries; the submission and approval of various accounts administered by the Board; the undertaking of surveys and the submission of reports regarding the state of the Island's agriculture assets and fishery stocks; and the ongoing management of the Aquarium and Knockaloe Experimental Farm.
