Papers relating to the training and career of Florence Rowe as a midwife, including her training case book (January - October 1940) collated in the Plymouth area, case registers kept of her deliveries in the Nutley region of Sussex (May 1947 - November 1949) and continuation cards issued by Devon County Council of deliveries in Silverton, Withleigh, Collumpton, Bampton, Holcombe Rogus and Halberton (no dates), and the certificates issued to her by the Central Midwives Board on completion of her part 1 and part 2 examination and registration (August 1940 - March 1941); together with a notice from the Central Midwives Board calling for midwives in the emergency maternity homes set up under the Government Evacuation Scheme (March 1941), and photographs of her in uniform while on war service in Persia and Iraq (1942). The photographs include a picture of the Duchess of Gloucester opening the new clinic at the Princess Alexandra Nursing Home (October 1937), a wedding between a nurse and serviceman, and servicemen and nurses at 31 Canadian General Hospital, Persia and 28 British General Hospital, Iraq.
