Scope and Content

Ms register of cases attended by Margaret Ellen Roberts, midwife at a nursing home in Plaistow, London (18 August 1922-2 June 1923), detailing the name, age, address and number of previous labours and mischarges of each patient, the date and hour of her arrival at the delivery, the presentation of the child on birth, the date and hour of the birth, the sex of the infant, whether the infant was born living or dead, whether the infant was full term or premature, the name of the doctor if called, if there were any complications during or after labour, the date of her last visit, the condition of the mother and child on her last visit and any further remarks, such as whether forceps were used during the delivery, together with a printed certificate to practice as a midwife awarded to her by the Central Midwives Board (9 August 1922).

Administrative / Biographical History

Margaret Ellen Roberts (fl. 1910-1930) passed the examinations of the Central Midwives Board in August 1922. She went on to practice as a midwife at a nursing home in Plaistow, London.
