Scope and Content

This collection comprises three ms log books, written by the Principal of High Combe Midwife Teachers Training College in Kingston-upon-Thames (24 April 1950-16 October 1967), providing detailed descriptions of what was happening on a day to day basis at the College, including preparations for the grand opening, the work undertaken by and the progress of both pupils and staff, the subjects covered during lectures, as well as the events that took place, together with ms visitors books and ms autograph book, a ms register of gifts made to the College, as well as photographs and printed material.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Midwife Teachers Training College at High Combe, Kingston upon Thames, was established in 1950 as a residential college to prepare students for the Midwife Teacher Diploma. It was managed by a Council consisting of representatives of the Central Midwives Board, the Royal College of Midwives, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the South West Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board.
