A mounted print measuring 204 x 15 mm, with the caption handwritten on the mount. The photograph shows a section of the New Zealand contingent on parade in a field outside Wellington, with hills in the background. New Zealand, like Australia, responded enthusiastically to the prospect of the Boer War and the New Zealand Government eventually sent nearly 6,500 men during the course of the war and they took a full part in many important actions. Like the Australians, they greatly impressed Lord Roberts, losing some 70 men killed in action (against 133 who died of disease, and 25 accidentally killed).
