Second proof, 1951, of Augustus John's memoirs Chiaroscuro: Fragments of Autobiography (London: Jonathan Cape, 1952) with mainly minor emendations and corrections, mostly in ink, by the author. The book's printed title, 'Painter's Pastime', has been deleted by John on the half-title and title pages (pp. 1, 3) and replaced with the final title 'Chiaroscuro'.
Slightly more substantial emendations occur on pp. 60, 142, 153, 201 and 234; there are also occasional proof readers' corrections and queries in a cerise ink. Pages 13-14 were apparently removed (in 1962, see NLW MS 24135iD, f. vii) in order that p. 13 could be photographed for use on the rear fly-leaf of Augustus John, Finishing Touches (London, 1964); pp. 13-14 of the first proof (NLW MS 24133C) are absent for the same reason.
