Administrative / Biographical History

The private bank of Ledgard & Company was formed in 1821 in Ringwood and was also known as the Ringwood & Poole Bank or the Town & County of Poole Bank; it was closely associated with Geo. Welch Ledgard & Sons (est. 1821) of Poole. The business failed in 1861 and was acquired by the Wilts & Dorset Banking Company (est. 1835) in the same year.
