These documents were deposited by the Buckinghamshire County Record Office in 1984 as accession 2354. They form part of the archives of George Wigley and Sons, Winslow, a firm of auctioneers and land agents in North Bucks.
The three Stokenchurch turnpike trust bonds referred to in these records, numbers 3, 4 and 5, were originally purchased by Revd. John Cooke, President of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, in 1789. He died in 1823 and bequeathed the bonds to his nephew George Williams, a fellow of Corpus Christi and Professor of Botany in the University. George Williams died in 1834 and bequeathed the bonds to his sister Grace, who also died in 1834, leaving them to her sister Mary Williams. Mary died in 1842, leaving the residue of her estate to Henry Cotton, William Lewis, Anna Loring and Henry Nele Loring in trust to her sister Catherine, who was also her executor, and Catherine's husband, Revd. Vaughan Thomas of Yarnton. Catherine died in 1843, and Vaughan Thomas then became executor of Mary Williams' will. On his death in 1858 the administration of the will became the subject of a Chancery suit, and an order made in that suit in 1861 directed the bonds to be sold be Anna Loring and Henry Nele Loring.
