Scope and Content

A miscellaneous collection of medieval and later deeds. Twenty-three relate to Lancashire, with smaller numbers relating to Cheshire, Cumberland, Denbighshire, Derbyshire, Durham, Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, Montgomeryshire, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Staffordshire and Yorkshire. They are arranged alphabetically by place-name. They include five grants to Tintern Abbey (RYCH/744-748).

Acquisition Information

Rylands accession no. R61986. Purchased by the John Rylands Library at the Sotheby's auction of the library of W.A. Lindsay on 14 February 1927 (lot 64), through the London bookseller Bernard Quaritch, for £5 10s.
