Copy of article telling the life story of Elizabeth Hepburn [nee Reid].

Administrative / Biographical History

Elizabeth Reid was born in 1843, at Westroy, Orkney. She married James Davidson Hepburn on 21 April 1870. James was appointed as a missionary with the London Missionary Society in 1870, and they were stationed at Shoshong, South Africa from that year onwards. In 1889, as Khama and his people had removed to Phalapye, the Hepburns also settled there. James Hepburn died in England, 1893. Elizabeth died at Bulawayo in 1935.

Copy of article donated to the Council for World Mission by Jean Bryett in March 1982, and later transferred to SOAS. Jean Bryett is the granddaughter of Elizabeth Hepburn (nee Reid).
