An album of 73 photographs, mostly three to a page, measuring 145 x 88 mm. save for numbers 16-21, 31, 34-42 and 58-66, which measure 88 x 145 mm. Subjects are, for the most part, indigenous people and their animals. An obituary from The Times, included with the album, contains a tribute to Bieneman's work from a former pupil, Aliyu Makaman Bida.

Administrative / Biographical History
Gustavus Adolphus John Bieneman, O.B.E., was born on 28 July 1889. From Emmanuel College (1909-1913) he was recruited by Sir Hanns Vischer as a member of the Northern Nigerian Education Service, which he joined in July 1913. His long service included the Headship of the country's first teacher's training college at Katsina. In 1936 he was appointed Assistant Director of Education, a post he retained until his retirement in 1943. He died in 1956.
