Scope and Content

Plaster bust after one of several "seated Voltaire" sculptures completed by the workshop of Jean Antoine Houdon in the late 18th century.

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements

The plaster bust is coated in layers of a yellowish-gold colored material, likely shellac. These layers suggest that the bust was used by J Giusti & Co as a positive form from which subsequent moulds were taken.
