Killer was born in 1763 and entered Manchester Grammar School in 1774 and was apprenticed to Edward Hall at MRI in 1781. When he qualified, Killer commenced practice in Stockport. However, on the resignation of Edward Hall and Richard Hall from the staff of MRI in 1790, Killer was elected surgeon. He resigned in 1804 owing to a dispute with the house surgeon, Hutchinson. Killer often attended the poor and did not charge for his services. In 1803 he was appointed surgeon to the Manchester and Salford Volunteers. Killer retired from practice in 1831 and moved to Farley, Staffordshire, he died on 25 May 1841 aged 77. He was buried in the vault of the Bill family, as he had been friends with John Bill, surgeon at MRI.
