Betty Kershaw was director of nursing education at the Manchester College of Nursing and Midwifery and in 1994 was president of the Royal College of Nursing. She studied nursing at Manchester Hospitals and graduated in nursing from the University of Manchester in 1976. She worked in nurse education at Wythenshawe Hospital Manchester, the Royal Marsden Hospital, and Christie Hospital Manchester and from 1984 to 1987 was director of nursing education at Stockport.
