Killer entered Manchester Grammar School in 1775. He was admitted as apprentice at MRI in 1783 and then in 1790 became physician's clerk to the home patients. From 1791 to 1795 Killer was apothecary and house surgeon at MRI. He later went into partnership with the surgeon James Briscall in Stockport. Killer retired from practice to Derby, where he died on 7 February 1854 aged 86.
