Marsland was educated at Pendleton High School for Girls and the University of Manchester, where she gained her medical qualifications in 1945. She held hospital appointments in Rochdale and Derby before being appointed assistant schools medical officer for Rochdale in 1949. She held public health appointments in Rochdale until 1957 when she was appointed assistant medical officer of health for Manchester and senior medical officer. From 1977 to 1981 Marsland was community physician to Oldham. She was married to Alan Marsland (see above).
