Miller was born in Gracehill, Northern Ireland, on 8 March 1772, the son of a Moravian minister. He was educated at Fulneck and in London where he gained his medical qualifications as MRCS and LSA. Miller came to Fairfield, Manchester in 1796. He lived in Fairfield for 42 years practicing in the large Moravian Settlement in Fairfield. Miller died on 15 June 1838.
