James Parkhouse b.1927

James Parkhouse studied medicine at Liverpool University, graduating in 1950. He took the DA in 1952 and the MD in 1955. He trained as an anaesthetist, and was a consultant anaesthetist at the United Oxford Hospitals 1958-66, professor of anaesthetics at the University of Manitoba and chief anaesthetist at Winnipeg General hospital1967-8, postgraduate dean at Sheffield University 1969-70, and professor of anaesthetics at the University of Manchester from 1970-80. He was thereafter professor of postgraduate medical education at the University of Newcastle. He was director of the Medical Careers Research Group from 1984-89. Parkhouse was an adviser on medical education to WHO, and president of the section of medical education of the RSM. Among his publications was A new look at anaesthetics 1965 and Doctors careers 1991.
