Scope and Content

South Oxford Council School, later Secondary Modern School was located on Thames Street and was built as part of the reorganisation of South Oxford Schools in 1910. The school provided places for 250 boys and 150 girls with a separate Infants department (please see S195/3 for records of this school). The school became a Secondary Modern School in 1948 and closed in 1971 with the pupils being transferred to Cowley St Johns Schools. The plans relate to both the building of the school in 1909 and a proposed new school in the 1960s that was never built.

These records were deposited as part of Acc 3522 in September 1992 and as part of Acc 4784 in November 2000. Catalogued by Alison Smith in July 2019 with additions in October 2021.
