Scope and Content

created under the Local Government Act 1894 and superseded the Headington Rural Sanitary Authority (see F A Youngs 'Guide to the Local Administrative Units of England' for a list of parishes in the district). Under the Oxford Extension Act 1928 parts of Headington, Cowley, Iffley and Marston were transferred to the City of Oxford. Under the Oxfordshire Review Order 1932 the district was abolished and all parishes transferred to Bullingdon Rural District except Horton cum Studley which was transferred to Ploughley Rural District.

In common with other rural and urban district councils, amongst its many responsibilities Bullingdon RDC was responsible for public health, housing, rating, planning, building regulations, water supplies, sewerage, some roads, and (during World War Two) evacuation.

The collection was originally catalogued as Headington RDC (accession numbers 740, 741, 1117, 1546 & 1548). Recatalogued by Della Fredericks and Chris Gilliam with additional records from accessions 1548, 5247 & 5340. Date completed: July 2011
