Adam Brown Kelly gained his MB CM in 1888 and MD 1904 from Glasgow University and continued his studies in London, Berlin and Vienna. He became a Fellow of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1920. He was surgeon to the ear, nose and throat department of the Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow and after his retirement was appointed consultant surgeon. He produced numerous papers on his speciality and, in conjunction with Donald Paterson of Cardiff, first described Plummer-Vinson syndrome. His son, Herbert Derek Brown Kelly, (died May 2002) qualified MB BCh in 1931 and MA, MD 1944 from Cambridge University. He was formerly Surgeon in Charge in the otolaryngology department of the Victoria Infirmary.

The Glasgow University ’88 Club consisted of those medical students who graduated in 1888.
