Private Leonard Bowe (born in 1873) from Ambleside, Cumberland, served in the South African War in the 1st Border Regiment Active Service Company. He was recruited in January 1900 aged 26 when he was working as a labourer. It appears that he saw active service again, during the First World War, as part of the King's Regiment (Liverpool). He died in 1943.
