'Castel del Monte, Terra di Bari. Built by the Emperor Frederic the Second as a hunting seat 1220-50, now belonging to the Duca di Andria..' (titlepage, fol. v). Ten leaves of drawings, mostly pen and wash, of Castel del Monte made on the spot (fol. v) for the Hon. Keppel Craven. The drawings consist of general views, plans and details. The name of the artist, 'Carlo Paris Architetto', is given at the foot of Plate I. The Hon. Keppel Richard Craven (1779-1851) was the youngest child of William, 6th Baron Craven; he resided in Naples, 1805, and in 1834 purchased a convent in the mountains near Salerno (see F. Boase, Modern English Biography, I (reprint 1965), col. 753). A detailed account of Castel del Monte is given in Craven's Excursions in the Abruzzi, II (1838), 324-35.
