Maria Dale née Lederer was born in Prague, and educated at the Universities of Munich and Heidelberg, taking her MD in 1929. She was trained as a child psychiatrist, and was a child psychiatrist at Oldham Child Guidance Clinic and medical director of the Whitefield Child Guidance Clinic. She published a number of articles on paediatric topics and was a fellow of the Manchester Medical Society . She was the wife of Walter Dale, head of biochemistry at Christie Hospital from 1937-1962. Dale was laboratory steward at the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Manchester and at St Mary's Hospitals.
