Henry Brennan was a former director of the University of Manchester's department of anaesthesia, based at MRI. He qualified at Manchester in 1927, and held house appointments at MRI. He specialised in anaesthetics, taking his DA in 1935. In 1940 he gained an MD for work on shock. After the War he was a consultant anaesthetist at MRI. He built up a large anaesthetics department at the Hospital during his tenure as director. He also helped develop the faculty of anaesthetists of the RCS.
