John Brocklehurst was appointed professor of geriatric medicine at the University of Manchester in 1970. He graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1947, and took his MD in 1950 with a study of urinary incontinence in old people. He held consultant's posts at Bromley Hospital and Guy's Hospital, before coming to Manchester. He published widely on geriatric care, stroke illness and incontinence in old people.
