Consists of accounts for Chain Hill, Wantage 1918-1920; labour account books and account books for Langford Downs Farm 1939-1969; photographs c 1940's; articles 1947 and a manuscript of his autobiography 1987

Philip Hough was born in Patcham near Brighton in 1917. In 1939 he took over Langford Downs Farm in Gloucestershire. He was involved with the War Agricultural Executive Committee and the National Farmers Union and after the war travelled to New Zealand for the Nuffield Foundation to report on sheep farming there. In 1958 he took over Bradstone Manor Farm in Devon but continued to run Langford Downs as well. In 1963 he became a member of the Agricultural Advisory Council and in the late 1960's he was part of a commission which went to Canada and the United States to look at egg production and a member of a group which went to East Germany to see how agriculture had developed there. In 1973 he moved from Bradstone to Smalland, Dartmoor to set up a stud farm for horses and then in 1984 he moved back to Gloucestershire where he died in 1990.
