Scope and Content

The Oxfordshire Federation of Women's Institutes (OFWI) was founded in 1919 to guide and encourage the formation of local Women's Institutes within Oxfordshire. It also forms part of the National Federation of Women's Institutes, so it has a role influencing ideas at both local and national level. The Federation is based in Tackley and currently encompasses around 150 local Women's Institutes and about 4,500 members.

The records are divided into three parts. The first part contains records, mainly minute books, concerning the different committees run by the Oxfordshire Federation. The second part concerns the records from 156 local institutes. This includes minutes, financial records and correspondence. The third part contains records of local groups made up of members of different individual WI's.

The records were deposited by The Oxfordshire Federation of Women's Institutes as Acc 5369 in March 2005, Acc 5620 in March 2007, Acc 5671 in August 2007, Acc 5764 in August 2008, Acc 5892 in August 2009, Acc 6138 in December 2012, Acc 6200 in August 2013, Acc 6312 in July 2014, Acc 6393 in September 2015, Acc 6514 in October 2016, Acc 6611 in August 2017, Acc 6700 in September 2018, Acc 6771 in January 1998 and Acc 6795 in September 2019.
