Administrative / Biographical History

Muriel Beryl Hunt was born in 1918. She began her training at Cornelia East Dorset Hospital in 1939, a hospital with 112 beds. Hunt sat her Preliminary State Examination in 1942, and her final exams in 1944 when she was based at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Bournemouth. She qualified as a Fever nurse in 1945. Hunt then worked at Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital, Coventry and then Selly Oak Maternity block, Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham when she was undertaking her midwifery training. She was qualified as a midwife in 1947 and returned to Dorset, where she trained as a District Nurse with the Queens Institute of District Nursing. Hunt worked as a Queens Nurse in Dorset from 1948 until her retirement in 1980. She was awarded her Long Service badge for 21 years of service in 1969. Following her retirement, Hunt spent a year in Bethleham, Israel where she continued practice as a midwife and completed 320 deliveries there. She died in 2013.
