Administrative / Biographical History

The correspondence with Rudmose Brown relates to the postal history of the Falkland Islands Dependencies. Sailing vessels were used during the 1840s to carry mail to the steamers in Montevideo, the first franking system was organised in 1868, the first stamps issued in 1878. The main Post Office was destroyed by fire in 1944.
