Administrative / Biographical History
Reginald J. Pringle (1910-1980) was educated at Edinburgh House, Felsted School in Essex and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. On leaving Cambridge he joined the Indian Civil Service, and in 1933 went to Bengal as Assistant Magistrate. He was successively Joint Magistrate; Assistant Private Secretary to the Governor of Bengal; Under Secretary, Commerce Department, Government of India; Deputy Secretary; Secretary to the Central Board of Revenue; Deputy Secretary, Finance Department, Government of India; Special Officer and Deputy Secretary, Government of Bengal; Collector of Central Excise, Madras; Chief Controller of Imports to the Government of India; and Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Commerce.
