Letters to John Outram discussing trade in goods including wool, wines and hay, and family business meetings

Administrative / Biographical History

Brothers John and Benjamin Outram were successful merchants and John Outram was buying land in Kilham about seven miles west of Bridlington through the 1760s and 1770s, receiving in total 684 acres at enclosure in 1773. About one third of this was later sold in the 1790s by his son, Benjamin Outram, but the remainder of the land descended in the Outram family until final lots were sold in 1927 (History of the county of York East Riding, ii, pp.253-4, 257,261).
