Administrative / Biographical History

The church was founded in 1928 to meet the need for a Baptist place of worship in Townhill, Swansea. Many of the founder members came from the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in the city centre, while some came from other Baptist churches in the area. The church at Townhill continued in the mainstream Baptist Union until 1973, when, together with other Baptist churches in Swansea, it seceded from the organisation following controversial statements made by the Reverend Michael Taylor to the Baptist Union Assembly of 1971.
