Administrative / Biographical History

Potts & Co., Solicitors, until 1966 known as Potts and Ball, were based in Chester, Cheshire. The firm dealt primarily with estates in Chester, Flintshire and Denbighshire, including Kelsterton, Penbedw and Acton Hall. The firm originated as Widdens, Potts and Leeke, in 1779; until about 1930, the firm was based at Northgate House, Northgate Street, Chester, which also served as the family home. The firm's offices were then moved to 21 King Street, Chester. The Potts family also held an estate at Glanyrafon, Llanferres, Denbighshire.

Arranged into the following: Bate of Kelsterton; Buddicom of Penbedw; Cunliffe of Acton Hall; Frost of Chester; River Dee Company; Potts of Glanyrafon; Llanferres and Cilcain Enclosure; and Miscellaneous.
