Scope and Content

A day school in the parish commenced in 1823; by 1833 six such schools taught 100 children. In 1839 a building converted from the Baptist Chapel in George Street (now Cave Street) was converted for a school for Boys, Girls and Infants. In 1903 the Boys moved to Cross Street and in 1929, after the closure of the Girls School, the school became a Senior Mixed School (please see S198/4 for records of this school).
