Administrative / Biographical History

The Navvies, Bricklayers' Labourers and General Labourers' Union was formed by John Ward in 1889. In 1920 it was renamed the Public Works and Constructional Operatives' Union, but its membership fell as members left to join other unions and by 1933 it had effectively ceased to exist.
