Manuscripts of various provenance classified under 'MSS. Arab'. Includes manuscripts discovered during the excavation of the remains of a library and charter room of the Coptic monastery of St. Apollo at Deir el-Bala'izah, near Rifeh, by Prof. Flinders Petrie in 1907.
Other highlights of the collection are an illustrated Arabic version of the Materia Medica of Dioscorides, bequeathed to the Library in 1926 (MS. Arab d. 138), and the recently discovered Book of Curiosities, a late 12th-century or early-13th century manuscript containing a series of rare maps and astronomical diagrams (MS. Arab c. 90).
