Scope and Content

The collection comprises of correspondence by Maud to her nephew Apsley Cherry-Garrard regarding family matters.

Administrative / Biographical History

Maud Sharpin was the daughter of a eminent Bedford doctor. Her elder Sister Evelyn married Colonel Apsley Cherry (who later added the Garrard to the family name). Maud was the aunt of Antarctic explorer Apsley Cherry-Garrard who served as assistant zoologist during the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott). During the First World War Maud served in Greece as a nurse.
